Chapter History

The Charlotte Alumnae Chapter was first installed on June 1, 1971 by Ruth Gould. The original charter members were Mrs. J. R. Middleswarth, Mrs. R. L. Maddox, Mrs. R. E. Booth, Mrs. William A. Dailey, Mrs. J. A. Potter, Mrs. William Gasque, Mrs. E. N. Martin, Mrs. J. E. Roberts, Mrs. V. L. Miller, Janna Rose Prange, Rosemarie Cooper Judson, and Nancy Rainey Bell. For reasons yet unknown, the chapter disbanded.

In August 2012, Heidi Frankson (Iota Epsilon) put out a call to area sisters to generate interest in reforming an alumnae chapter in the Charlotte area. Several responded and the first meeting of the Sigma Alpha Iota Charlotte Alumnae group was held on September 30, 2012. For the next three years, the group grew to a Colony, while increasing membership and activity. After much hard work and dedication, on April 12, 2015 the Charlotte Alumae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota was re-chartered. The re-chartering members were: Crystal DiGiacomo (Beta Psi), Rebecca Engen (Zeta Epsilon), Rebecca Flaherty (Beta Eta), Erin Fox (Kappa Gamma), Heidi Frankson, Jessie Holbrook (Eta Theta), Diane Jordan (Epsilon Theta), Renee Kerr (Eta Theta), Melinda Lein (Iota Lambda), Kelly Brinton Nelson (Epsilon Theta), Amanda Profitt (Eta Theta), Trista Schlick (Epsilon Xi), Gloria Stipp (Iota Zeta), Rachel Sykes (Mu Lambda), Marie Vrablic (Eta Xi), Rosemary Webster (Sigma Theta), Carol Wiley (Beta Psi), and Kelly Zike (Eta Theta). Installing officers were National President Leslie Odom Miller, NVP-Extension and Fraternity Development Marcie Richardson, NVP-Alumnae Susan Berman, and NVP-Ritual Deborah Volker (present and presiding). Also, in attendance that day was National Executive Director Ruth Sieber Johnson, Region VI Officer Mary Thomas, Tau B Province Officer Bethany Tallman, and representatives from collegiate chapters Mu Lambda (Wingate University) and Mu Nu (Winthrop University).

We currently have twenty active members of our chapter.

Congratulations to Jamie Leverette on receiving our Outstanding Member Award for 2020-2021. Her dedication to the chapter and organization of our 2021 Virtual Province Day went above and beyond in a difficult year.
